FLAGS OF CONVENIENCE

FLAGS OF CONVENIENCE is a visual study that reimagines Japan’s iconic convenience stores, Family Mart, 7-Eleven, and Lawson, as abstract national flags. Drawing from the bold, graphic signage of each storefront, the series distills familiar color palettes into minimal compositions that echo the visual language of sovereignty and allegiance. By stripping away logos and focusing on pure color and form, everyday brands take on a strangely ceremonial quality.

These are not just store signs anymore. They are flags of micro-nations. Flags Of Convenience explores the idea that modern belonging is not defined by borders but by routine, by where you get your onigiri or go-to fried chicken. The result is a clean, almost bureaucratic visual system that reveals just how deeply convenience is woven into our cultural identity. Personal Project in Tokyo, Japan - 2025.
